Pineapples
Packaging & Transportation
Pineapple can be harvested in two ways – manually (by hand) or by machines.

In manual harvesting, one man cuts the fruit off the plant and passes it to two other workers. These workers sort the pineapples and pack them into boxes with their stems facing up. If the pineapples are wet, they must be dried before packing to prevent them from spoiling.

If a machine harvests the pineapples, the harvester decrowns (cuts the top off) the fruits and then places them on a long conveyor belt.

The pineapples are carried along the belt to a bin and loaded onto a truck for transportation.

Once the juicy pineapples are packaged, U.S. grown pineapples are transported to grocery stores so we can eat them – yum!
