Carrots
Packaging, Storage and Transporting

After carrots are harvested, they are washed, sorted by size, hydrocooled, and packaged. Hydrocooling is when produce is cooled with chilled water.

Carrots can be packaged in crates, trays, sacks, plastic bags, or nets—all depending on where they’re going and what they will be used for. After they are packaged, typically in waterproof cartons, they are covered with ice and shipped.

During shipping, carrots must be carefully handled because they are very sensitive. Bumps and bruises or too much heat will cause them to spoil faster!
