It may take two to three passes to completely harvest a field of broccoli. During each pass through the field, workers cut and trim broccoli heads and pack them into boxes. Workers walk behind a very slow moving machine that holds boxes ready to be filled. As boxes are filled they are loaded onto pallets, and when the pallets are filled a truck takes them to a cooling facility.
