Mangoes
Packaging & Transportation

After harvest mangoes are washed, dried and cooled. When they are ready for packing, they are separated according to size, variety and degree of ripeness. Identification/PLU stickers are placed on every mango and every other mango is wrapped in paper to help cushion them during transport. Boxes are lined with crumpled paper and the mangoes are packed leaning on their side instead of standing directly on their base to further protect them from damage during shipping. Only one layer of mangoes is packed in each box. Boxes are cooled before and during shipping to keep the mangoes from spoiling. Mangoes are transported to the U.S. on both ships and boats.
